Polychrome Tiles
Since the 80 years war (1568 - 1648), earthenware tiles have been made in the Netherlands. And these were made in many colors (also called polychrome). The "restriction" to the well-known Delft Blue blue is due to the desire to imitate the porcelain imported from China that is much more high-quality.
Because porcelain is baked at much higher temperatures, there are only a limited number of colors that can be used. Cobalt blue is one of those colors. Pottery is baked at a much lower temperature and can therefore be much more colorful.
